Scrap My Car with No V5
No V5C registration certificate? You can still sell your car for scrap. We collect vehicles across Manchester and Greater Manchester without a V5 document regularly. Valid photo ID and proof of ownership are the key requirements.
The V5C is the preferred document but it is not the only way to prove you own a vehicle. Get your instant quote and call us to discuss your specific situation if needed.
Scrapping a Car Without a V5 Registration Certificate
The V5C is the document issued by the DVLA that records who the registered keeper of a vehicle is. It is not proof of ownership in the legal sense, but it is the primary document used in vehicle transactions including scrapping.
If your V5C has been lost, stolen or never transferred to your name, you can apply for a replacement from the DVLA using the V62 form. The replacement costs £25 and can take a few weeks, but if you need to scrap your car quickly you do not have to wait for a replacement before proceeding.
We are a licensed Scrap Metal Dealer registered with Greater Manchester local authorities and operate in full compliance with the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013. The Act permits us to collect vehicles without a V5C as long as we verify the seller's identity and record the transaction properly.
What You Need Instead
Without a V5C you need to bring valid photo ID to the collection. A full or provisional UK driving licence is ideal as it confirms both identity and your address. A valid passport combined with a recent utility bill or bank statement works too.
Any supporting documents that link you to the vehicle are helpful. This includes a recent insurance certificate in your name, an MOT certificate, a purchase receipt or a hire purchase settlement letter. We do not require all of these but the more you can provide the smoother the process.
We handle the DVLA notification ourselves after collection. A Certificate of Destruction is issued on the day, which legally removes the vehicle from your responsibility. You do not need to contact the DVLA separately.
Will I Get Less Money Without a V5?
No. The absence of a V5C has no impact on your scrap car price. Our quote is based entirely on your vehicle's weight and the current scrap metal rate. Paperwork does not affect the metal value of the car.
